No Emission Monday – or Nemo for short – is a new global community designed to enable people to share information and ideas, network, and develop new business and joint projects aimed at halting climate change. Nemo operates through local NemoTeams, the virtual NemoCloud community, and the NemoBazaar business platform.
No Emission Monday was born in the spring of 2010 when a group of individuals concerned about global warming and its effects on the environment, people’s lives, and the world of business got together in Helsinki. Although countless organisations and groups addressing the issue of global warming already exist, Nemo’s founders believed that something was missing.
That something was a grassroots initiative that combines the enthusiasm of concerned individuals at local level and the strength of a global virtual community with the challenges and opportunities that climate change presents businesses.
Both a local…
|Local NemoTeams are the key driver of the global Nemo community. Ideas and innovations generated locally are shared and developed through the global NemoCloud and NemoBazaar.
Local non-profit NemoTeams lie at the heart of Nemo’s activities. These groups of volunteers are responsible for organising activities in and around where they live.
In addition to groups in Helsinki, Tampere, and Jyväskylä in Finland, NemoTeams are already active in London, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Zurich, Stockholm, Bratislava, and Copenhagen.
Teams in Addis Ababa and Sao Paolo are set to kick off shortly and will be joined by ones in Munich, Bucharest, Vienna, and Seoul later this year. More than 20 NemoTeams are expected to be up and running by the end of 2011, and more than 100 in as many countries by 2015.
…and a global initiative
No Emission Monday’s virtual community – the NemoCloud – gives Nemo its global dimension. NemoCloud is an open community in which anyone concerned about climate change can help fight global warming; and acts as a forum for crowdsourcing and co-creation.
NemoCloud’s collective know-how and creativity are available for companies and their customers to share, combine, and catalyse each other’s resources and capabilities to create value through new forms of interaction, service, and learning mechanisms.
NemoCloud members can be invited to help in developing new technologies or test new product or service concepts. This mass collaboration relies on individual NemoCloud members taking an active role in creating new, environmentally sustainable products and services.
Helping create new green business and encouraging existing businesses to become greener is central to Nemo’s mission and underpins Nemo’s corporate community, known as the NemoBazaar. This is designed to connect forward-looking companies with other like-minded companies, grassroots NemoTeams, and the NemoCloud community and generate bottom-up innovation. It is also intended to act as a platform for member companies to test out their ideas or marketing plans with early adopters and help them identify potential partners or experts in critical business areas.
