Major US order for Cargotec
Cargotec’s Kalmar RT Center, LLC (KRTC) has been awarded new orders worth USD 110 million for its Rough Terrain Container Handler (RTCH) from the Tank-Automotive Armament Command (TACOM) under its contract with the US Department of Defense. The new units will be built at Cargotec’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in San Antonio, Texas, which opened in 2009.
The orders include a separate contract for replacement parts and service for a 15-year period. Kalmar RT Center will be the primary supplier of replacement parts and all major repairs and upgrades of RTCH equipment during the contract.
KRTC has received orders totalling approximately USD 350 million to date under the underlying five-year contract awarded in 2008.
Designed for military and specialised commercial applications, Kalmar Rough Terrain Container Handlers can travel over unimproved, rough terrain surfaces while easily handling twenty or forty foot containers. The military version is fitted with a moving operator’s cab and a folding boom, which reduce the vehicle’s transport height and enable it to be transported by air, ship, rail, or road without disassembly.
Kalmar’s RT series incorporates several unique patented features.
“The RT series is truly state of the art. It is the most advanced drive-by-wire rough terrain construction equipment machine offered in the world today,” says Stan Simpson, President of Kalmar RT Center.
