New York goes for Vaisala technology
Vaisala has signed a turnkey contract with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for Road Weather Information Systems (RWIS) equipment, lightning detection, weather forecasting, software and data services, and 10 years of maintenance.
The contract covers all five airports operated by the Port Authority – John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia, Newark, Teterboro, and Stewart International – and deliveries will start immediately.
Vaisala technology will be used to maximise the Port Authority’s winter maintenance resources and minimise chemical usage and provide a long-term solution for weather monitoring. The solution will enable the airports to view and share all data through a single, easy-to-use package.
"The integration of Vaisala and Quixote Transportation Technologies, acquired by Vaisala in December 2009, allows us to provide a very comprehensive offering, the latest technologies and superior services,” according to Vaisala’s Segment Director, Roads, Antero Järvinen.
Vaisala is a global leader in environmental and industrial measurement, and provides a comprehensive range of innovative observation and measurement products and services for meteorology, weather-critical operations, and controlled environments.
